The action of Forspoken Free takes place in the fantasy land of Athia. This once beautiful place flourished under the rule of rulers called Tantas. The plague known as The Break, however, pushed Athia to the brink. The plague turned animals into bloodthirsty beasts and humans into monsters. To make matters worse, the Tantas have overnight become aggressive and hateful dictators who oppress their people.

The main character of the game is Frey Holland – a young woman who was mysteriously moved here from modern New York. The protagonist quickly discovers that she is immune to the plague, and the smart (and quite talkative) bracelet wrapped around her arm grants her magical powers. Just as quickly, Frey learns that she is not welcomed by the rulers of Athia. Nevertheless, in order to get her questions answered and find a way home, the maiden must try to face the plague and free Athia from the yoke of Tantas’ brutal rule.

The way Frey moves in Athia is referred to by the developers as “magical parkour”. Supported by the supernatural powers of her bracelet, the girl runs at breakneck speed and travels huge distances in the air, quickly climbs walls and obstacles in the terrain, and falls from a great height do not impress her much .

Equally dynamic clashes with opponents require us, above all, dexterity and reflexes. Additionally, it’s important to skillfully juggle elemental magic attacks, including precision and area-of-effect spells, as well as spells that keep opponents at bay or eliminate them in melee. A wide range of possibilities allows you to adapt the protagonist to the individual style of play.

During the game, we face various opponents, including monsters living in Athia. Among the bosses that we also face from time to time, the Tantas are the leaders. Each of them represents (as in a distorting mirror) a specific virtue; while Tanta Sila is the Tanta of Force, Tanta Prav is the Tanta of Justice.
